President Uhuru Kenyatta has officially unveiled the
structure of the new government, reducing the number of ministries from 44 to
18.
Some of the new
ministries created include Information, Communication, and Technology- ICT,
in a bid to tap into the increasing opportunities in the ICT sector. Many
expect that the feisty IT advocate, Bitange
Ndemo, will be handpicked to head
this ministry.
Another area given
special focus is mining, which is now a fully fledged ministry. This is in
light of the growing discovery of mineral resources, like oil that was found by
Tullow Oil, and coal deposits in Kitui, as well as Titanium in the same region.
Experts also allege that the whole East Africa
region is sitting in a treasure of hydrocarbons, whose exploitation could bring
a windfall.
In the sports and
culture ministry, creative youth hope to find means of livelihood, coming
at a time when the music scene in the country is flourishing, and the rugby
sevens team, as well as the athletics team, continues to scale to new heights.
