MPs want more salary, call for disbursement of Salaries Commission.

National assembly MPs want an increase in their salaries, as the amounts spelt out by the salaries commission is ‘too little’. The MPs have called for the disbursement of the salaries commission, since ‘their
views’ were not taken into account.

However, in an address to parliament, President Uhuru Kenyatta stressed that the current wage bill- which constitutes a third of the budget, and about 12 percent of the GDP, is unsustainable, and his government
would not like to increase it further, a move that was interpreted to mean that his government will not be consenting to an increase in public servants salaries anytime soon. If the government is to increase salaries, then services for other projects, such as the laptops and other infrastructural projects, will likely be shelved.
