When it comes to songs, there are feel good songs, party
songs, love songs, name it. However, here are the top five Kenyans who have the
deepest lyrics in their songs.
1. Juliani.
Juliani has consistently come up with deep lyrics, and is
one of the few musicians that is acceptable across the board by both gospel and
secular musicians. His latest song, ‘Tawala’, is deep in lyrics. He invokes
such simple but yet deep lyrics in his songs.
2. Sauti Sol.
Sauti Sol is probably Kenya’s version of Boys2Men. Their
lyrics are in Kiswahili, people can relate to it, what’s more they charm their (mostly)
female fans with their songs. Ulipokuwa primo, heri kulia kwa
Mercedes au kucheka kwa boda boda are lines one can regularly identify with.

3. Rose Muhando.
For lovers of gospel music, music doesn’t come any better
than Rose Muhando’s. She is one of the few Kenyan musicians that have sold a
million plus albums. Her songs like nibebe, ‘utamu wa yesu’, milele, and kiatu
kivue, have pushed the envelope of gospel music to a whole new level.
4. Jua Cali.
Jua Cali’s song’s in sheng with a bit of swanglish, are
easily relatable, but he is slowly moving away from singing to production.
5. Nonini.
Remember in 2003 when Nonini burst into the scene, parents
were up in arms that his songs were corrupting morals of their children. He has
since grown in his stature, and produced music that is simple to understand,
sing along, relatable, and above all, deep in lyrics. However, as a radio
presenter, he won’t have much time for music.
