The Commission for University Education- CUE, has warned students
to be wary of foreign degrees. Speaking at Eldoret Polytechnic, CUE secretary,
Prof. David Some, said that some students were being duped into enrolling in
fake colleges overseas. Cases of fake colleges have been on the increase.
Last year, Daily Nation reported that Kampala
International University
degrees could not be accepted in
Kenya, a matter that the university
vehemently disputed.
At around the time of elections, Bishop Dr. Margaret Wanjiru
was banned from contesting for the Nairobi Governor’s seat, as CUE could not
verify whether her theology degree from a US college was genuine.
In 2011, Ahadi Kenya trust chairman Stanley Kamau
found himself in hot soup, after the US
University he had received a honorary degree from was supposedly ‘fake’.
