Job Summary
The Community Managed Disaster Risk Reduction Manager will report to the Africa Regional Director, The post holder is expected to support the implementation of the Community Managed Disaster Risk Reduction
He/She will also work with the Regional Applied Learning Manager to execute various transfer of learning activities when called upon.
Summary of Duties and Responsibilities
Facilitate the implementation of CMDRR Project of IIRR.
Monitor the CMDRR program implementation by partners
Building partner’s capacity in project/management and program strategy with focus on mentoring, coaching and training.
Developing collaborative relationships with strategic partners, donors, and key stakeholders to ensure the effectiveness of IIRR CMDRR strategy and sustainability of partners.
Manage advice, support and guide the existing portfolio of partners.
Review and validate the partners’ reporting on a regular basis to monitor the progress and verify the projects are implemented in accordance with IIRR’s requirements.
Together with the Finance Section, analyze the consistency of the financial and narrative reports of partners, and their consistency with the project progress on the field.
Improve quality and delivery with partners.
Make regular visits to the partners if relevant and if necessary.
Organize and facilitate workshop and training on CMDRR.
Prepare a training and workshop report including follow up plan.
Qualifications
A minimum of a Masters Degree in any of the social sciences.
Competencies / Attributes / Knowledge and Skills:
Proven knowledge and skills in implementing CMDRR Projects;
Analytical and innovative problem-solving ability;
Demonstrated ability to handle complex process and information integration issues;
Extensive theoretical background and practical experience in organization development, civil society engagement, communication, lobbying and NRM.
Ability to coordinate major capacity building needs assessment, planning, development and implementation of capacity building initiatives;
Ability to maintain effective working relations both as a team member and team leader;
Ability to establish priorities and to plan, coordinate and monitor own work plan and those under his/her supervision.
Proven interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with people in a multi-cultural, multi-interest, multiethnic environment.
Experience:
Experience in training and facilitation of CMDRR.
Minimum of Seven (7) years of relevant work experience in coordination with NGOs and/or donor organizations.
Experience in building the capacity of organizations and community institutions like Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) communities in CMDRR.
Understanding of Community Managed Disaster Risk Reduction (CMDRR)strategies
Experience and knowledge of proposal writing, program budgeting, M& E.
Ability to work independently, with limited supervision and in a team.
Strong interpersonal skills and professional maturity.
Special working conditions:
The incumbent may have to work odd and/or long hours at a time to complete special requests for projects.
