Project Manager– Outreach
Marie Stopes Kenya is an affiliate of Marie Stopes International, fully responsible for development and implementation of its programme in Kenya.

MSK engages in family planning (FP) and sexual reproductive health care (SRH) through various interventions, in collaboration with Government of Kenya (GoK), various implementation partners
and other stakeholders.

These interventions include the management of 26 medical centers country-wide, 15 outreach teams, and engaging with nearly 300 social franchising partners.

Its programme is supported by a wide range of donors, including DfID, The Packard Foundation, Bill and
Melinda Gates Foundation, AusAid and other Marie Stopes affiliates. 

Position Objective:
The Project Manager – Outreach will be overall reponsible for ensuring that the Outreach programme of MSK will deliver on its overall objective and realize set targets.

He/she will also actively identify and follow-up to further extension opportunities within the Outreach programme.

He/she is responsible for the management and coordination of all aspects of the Outreach activities of Marie Stopes Kenya, as supported and funded by different donors.

This includes coordination of, and support to the 15 outreach teams in the various geographical working areas, overall grants monitoring and compliance, ensure regular reporting to MSK and donors is carried out in a timely and qualitative fashion, facilitate support to the teams in terms of logistical support, advance request and surrenders, while ensuring adherence to internal and donors’ procedures and guidelines. 

Place in the organisation

The Project Manager – Outreach reports to the Director of Programmes. He/she will supervise the Outreach Teams.

In ensuring that quality programming objectives are met, he/she will actively interact with Director of Clinical Services and other Country Management Team (CMT) members, Quality and Technical Assurances (Q, T & A) and M & E teams, support units including Logistics, Finance and HR.

He/she will also engage with external stakeholders, including local government, implementation partners and donors.

The position is based in the support offices in Nairobi, with frequent travel to the operational areas.

Key Responsibilities
    Discuss, agree and set regular objectives for each Outreach Team, through annual and quarterly workplans;
    Provide regular support to the Outreach Teams in all operational matters;
    Link up technical support and back-stopping to the team, including Clinical Services, Quality and Technical Assurances, and Monitoring & Evaluation, with the various team at regular intervals and when-ever relevant;
    Identify and take opportunities for collaboration, and ensuring coherence, with other activities within the Marie Stopes Kenya programme, including medical centers and social franchising;
    Ensure that all activities are undertaken in line with the core values of Marie Stopes Kenya;
    Review and provide feedback on monthly, quarterly and annual narrative and financial reports from the teams;
    Engage with the support teams in the Nairobi support office to ensure that required logistical, financial and other support is provided timely and in qualitative manner;
    Ensure that in all operational matters internal as well as donor regulations and procedures are followed and adhered to, including grants compliance;
    Ensure that reporting deadlines are met and that reports are submitted in timely and  qualitative manner to the various donors and MSK / MSI internally, through the Director of Programmes;
    Highlight any issues that may arise and require attention with the appropriate colleagues or external parties so that these can be addressed in good time and manner;
    Any other duties that can reasonably be asked from the position

Outputs and deliverables:
    Outreach Teams will have delivered on their set targets in qualitative and timely fashion;
    Budgets are spent in accordance with plans, and any foreseen deviations timely addressed;
    CMT is regularly updated, through the Director of Programmes, of the performance of the Outreach programme;
    Donors are timely informed, through reports, of progress on the activities;
    Active engagement with donors will have been maintained and strengthened.

Knowledge, Experience and Competencies

    A degree at Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline, such as project management;
    Excellent written and oral  English and Kiswahili;
    Computer software illiterate;
    A minimum of three years of project management in similar context, preferably in a health-based project, is required;
    Proven analytical skills in budgets and financial reports;
    Proven experience in report writing.
    Team-player with good interpersonal skills
    Ability to perform under pressure
    Flexibility and ready to respond to unforeseen developments
    Experience in working within the community targeted essential
